Located just beyond the bridges of Venice when coming from the Border House, the Fringe Cafe features largely in the early chapters of TLJ. It is run by Stanley and staffed by April, Charlie and Sandra. Emma, Marcus and Isabel are regular customers, and Cortez may be an occasional visitor as well. It is host to a breach in the Divide on April's Diary, 28th of July, when a Banda appears dancing and playing a pipe in front of the patrons. It holds an "Annual Summer Blowout" which, in 2209 is on Friday the 4th of August at 8pm. Acts playing that night include Royn Dale, Harlequin Masquerade and The Gogetters. Someone stuck a flyer for it on the Border House common room noticeboard. The ambient music heard in the Cafe is done by Tor Linløkken, and consists of five tracks Dragon, Dolphin, Eagle, Shark and Winterland. April can switch between them on the jukebox. The music is available free online at http//www.longestjourney.com/download/music/ the official TLJ website. After a rough patch it has been reincarnated as just 'The Fringe', a very exclusive cocktail lounge with a Japanese theme. Due to the economic misfortunes in the area, the Fringe has become a secure building with an airlocked entrance to guard against the Shakespeareans and Rapture. There is a long waiting list to get in, and its patrons are likely to be young investors risking the neighbourhood for a good night out. After a short stint as the owner, Charlie is now the manager of the Fringe, and works there most of the time along with a bad-tempered hostess. The Fringe is now built on two floors. The ground floor is the bar and lounge, with seating and an open plan floor. The mezzanine level is host to a number of VIP suites, private rooms with comfy sofas and, presumably, waitress service. Zoe Castillo visits the Fringe to speak to Charlie after a clue left by Reza Temiz, and is later attacked in one of the VIP suites by Marcus Crozier and the Twins. Because of her friendship with Charlie, Zoë is welcome at the Fringe whenever she's in Newport. The hostess at the Fringe is voiced by Nadine Shenton.
