The error seems to be FASA's use of the wrong taxnomy. The wisent (''bison bonasus'') is indeed still alive and kicking. The aurochs (''bos primigenius''http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aurochs), however, did go extinct in 1627. FASA just conflated the two species of bovine.
