Being a slightly altered version of the original ''Half-Life 2'' map, d2_prison_03, ''Lockdown'' takes place in Nova Prospekt, in the area where the second Antlion Guard in the game is encountered.
The map has two levels and can be divided into three main areas the showers, the cell blocks along with the office, and the back hallway section. The first one features a high number of physical object, such as explosive and regular barrels, carts, and sinks, as well as toilet bowls, near which a Combine SPAS-12|shotgun is hidden; the rear shower room contains the OSIPR and a Charger Charger. The area is connected to the cell blocks section by a long and narrow corridor located on the upper level, leading along the edge of the map, and featuring a Charger Charger, and by a wider hall on the ground level.
Two of the nine cells, one in each block, are opened and contain supplies; in the lower one a shotgun can be found. Opposite them, on the higher level, lies a Crossbow (Half-Life 2)|Crossbow. In the room below, which contains a dead Vortigaunt in the original map, a .357 Magnum can be found. The elevated office, accessed through a stairway or a catwalk, features a shotgun, and a Combine Dispenser acting as a charger|supercharger, which replenishes health and suit power, giving up to 200 armor points. If the player crouches under the supercharger, they can both use the device and watch their back. The back hallway features a fan trap, which can be accessed through a vent; it contains the Rocket-Propelled Grenade Launcher (Half-Life 2)|RPG, among other supplies. The fan can be turned on by attaching a plug into a socket, killing any player that's in the trap room; near the plug can be found another .357 Magnum.
Similar to ''Steam Lab'' and ''Powerhouse'', ''Lockdown'' stresses tight quarters and close combat while offering the players little maneuvering space. The map is rather narrow and linear, meaning that every hallway is a prime space for the Combine Energy Ball attacks. Controlling the OSIPR and Energy Ball spawn points (that is the rear shower room, the upper cell, the staircase, the back hallway, and the fan room) is a pivotal factor in determining the victory or defeat on this map. Additionally, the countless physics props allow the players to use the Gravity Gun in many situations. The usage of the RPG is rather restricted, due to the fact that the map doesn't feature a lot of open space, which, in turn, leaves the field clear for Shotguns, Magnum revolvers, and Crossbows.

===''Half-Life 2 Survivor''===
''Survivor'' features several versions of ''Lockdown'', meant to be played in teams of four people in the battle mode, in which the active map changes each week; additionally, the ''Half-Life 2 Deathmatch'' map can be found in the game files. In every alteration, Team Blue spawn points are located in the back hallway, the office, and the former Vort room, while Team Red spawns in the rear shower room and near the toilets. Below are listed the most important differences between a given version and its predecessor.
====Version 1.0====
After the game release, the version 1.0 of ''Lockdown'' was featured as the battle map of the week for the first time on July 10, 2006.{{IA|20060715212425/http//hl2survivor.net/news/battle.html|''Half-Life 2 Survivor'' Battle Map|the official website (July 15, 2006)}} The map file itself was last modified on May 29, 2006.''Half-Life 2 Survivor'' game files
The map was simplified and heavily modified in several instances. The overall number of physics props was decreased. The rear rooms of the shower section were merged together, and half-walls were added. The upper hall is no longer accessible from that area. In the main shower section, the sink row was moved closer to the toilets. Stairs, and broken pipes acting as a platform were added to link the area with the upper hall. A wide hall now gives access to the cell blocks directly from the showers. Several walls were removed in the middle section, opening up the area. Ladders leading from the upper hall were replaced by stairs. The office was redesigned, and the supercharger was removed. The back hallway area was expanded with yet another corridor, and the fan room was removed.
There are four ammunition points in the back hallway, under the office, in the corridor leading from the shower room to the middle area, and near the toilets.
