The '''armor vest''' and '''helmet''' are parts of the personal armor set worn by the majority of Black Mesa Security Force team members.

The armor vest, being standard equipment for the Black Mesa security guards, is capable or absorbing or deflecting low-caliber rounds while also protecting its user from explosives and other types of weaponry. The helmet allows its wearer to take low-caliber shots to the head, excluding the uncovered facial region, while staying untouched, although .357 Magnum and Desert Eagle bullets will penetrate through it, killing the guard instantly.

Unlike the HEV Suit and the Powered Combat Vest|PCV, the armor vest and helmet are not powered by an energy source of any kind. Battery|Batteries and Charger cannot repair them. Instead, the only way to replenish armor protection is to replace them with new gear that's in better condition. Picking up the helmet will grant 40 armor, while the vest grants 60 armor.

==Behind the scenes==
The overweight security guards in ''Half-Life Opposing Force'' were originally intended to wear helmets, but their final model only retains the armor vest. The ''Opposing Force'' ''Capture The Flag'' game mode features the original helmet version of the overweight security guard. In the ''Development of Half-Life 2|Half-Life 2 leak'', an unused model of the helmet intended for Barney Calhoun can be found.
