I'm playing the Original half-life and I got the long jump. But I don’t notice any difference. How d you use the long jump and what does it do?
Run, then crawl before jumping. It makes you jump quite a lot further, and much faster, too. Practice with it on the hazard course a bit before using it in the actual game, it's a real skill to use it properly, but when you get the hang of it, it makes combat so much cooler. Also, it's a handy tool, I guess. (Dylan)
Important on many keyboards, the problem may be with their inability to correctly transmit all the impulses from the near-simultaneous pressing of 3 keys. I myself had to re-assign "forward" to a mouse button, so that I could walk forward and then duck and quickly jump. You might try this too, it makes long jumping much easier.
