The '''multitool''' is a miscellaneous item used to manipulate electronic locks, security cameras, autogun turrets, alarms and other types of electronic security. This model only appeared in ''Deus Ex''.

==Background==
The standard multitool with a telecommand design. Very common in 2052, it will be replaced by the nanite multitool by 2072. It's a disposable electronic device that electromagnetic resonance detection and frequency modulation to dynamically alter the flow of current through circuitry. The multitool can be used to manipulate code locks, cameras, autogun turrets, alarms, or other security elements.

==Characteristics==
Multitools work with security system elements in a number of ways:

* Acoustic sensor - disable it.
* Alarm sounder panel - let you disable the alarm just by using the panel (the enemies can still trigger it!).
* Autonomous defense turret - turn it to the "Ignore all" state.
* Electronic control panel - disable whatever it was linked to, usually laser triggers.
* Keypad - let you open the door without knowing the code.
* Retinal scanner - let you open the door without clearance.
* Surveillance camera - disable it.

A multitool cannot be used for computer information extraction, that falls in to the realm of computer skill.

Each multitool can only be used a single time on any electronic device. While using one, taking the target device out of focus before it is finished will prematurely abort overriding the device (although its resistance will still be depleted). The player is limited to only 20 multitools.

===Electronics skill===
At higher electronics skill levels, hacking a device takes less time and multitool resources.
*At untrained: one multitool can hack devices up to 10%.
*At trained: one multitool can hack devices up to 25%
*At advanced: one multitool can hack devices up to 40%
*At master: one multitool can hack devices up to 75%

==UNATCO TRAINING MANUAL==
Section 3C: Multitools

A "multitool" is not really a tool at all - not in the usual sense of the
word - but a disposable electronic device that utilizes electromagnetic
resonance detection and frequency modulation to dynamically alter the flow of
current through almost any non-hardened circuitry. Skilled agents can use the
multitool to manipulate code locks, cameras, autogun turrets, alarms, or
other security elements.

Note that multitools CANNOT be used for computer information extraction
(see Section 5A: Hacking).
