Robert Oppenheimer of the Nanite|nanotechnology revolution. He was instrumental in creating a technology capable of destroying the world, and he (perhaps belatedly) came to realize that such an act carries with it a certain moral imperative. While the basic theory behind nano-tech predates him by decades, it's pretty safe to say that Gary Savage is the man responsible for making large-scale, practical nano-engineering a reality. He's the one who took all the pieces and put them together. His ultimate achievement is the first fully operational Universal Constructor, a machine with the potential to create pretty much anything. As he became more aware of the potential of the creations, he also became more aware of the agenda of the organization that sponsored them, Majestic 12. Together with his X-51|co-workers and his idealistic daughter, Tiffany Savage|Tiffany, he conceived an audacious plan to break his second UC free of MJ-12 control, and thereby create a sort of balance of power. As might be expected, such a move would inevitably draw reprisals |description of Gary Savage to JC Denton|the player|Deus Ex}}'''Gary Savage''' is a scientist and head of X-51. Formerly a scientist for the Illuminati and Majestic-12, Savage has a long tenure of conducting inhumane and dangerous augmentation experiments on detained civilians, particulary in creating the Hyron Project and the Gray Death|Gray Death. However, this lead him to eventually suffer his own conscience, turning him against his former employers. ==Background== In The Missing Link, it is revealed that Savage worked on creating the Hyron Project|OCM Project with Tiffany Kavanagh, a romantic interest who most likely became his wife and a mother to his child (thus explaining his child being named Tiffany Savage). Since his role is brief, his fate following Kavanagh's possible escape is unknown. He participated in early research on Nano-augmentation|nanoaugmentation with Morgan Everett and Bob Page. After Page's upheaval, he worked for MJ12, training and organizing most of the organization's global scientific operations. While working in Area 51, he was heavily influenced by his Tiffany Savage|daughter and began to question his belief that science exists independent of morals. He finally escaped in 2051, destroying the Universal Constructor in the process. With his fellow scientists, he created X-51 and settled in former Vandenberg|Vandenberg Air Force Base. His wife was murdered by Majestic-12 soon after the move to Vandenberg. Savage is the only person, besides Page, who has the capability to produce a cure for the Gray Death virus, because he stole the reaction modules for the Universal Constructor when he left Area 51. It is for this reason why Morgan Everett|Everett refers JC Denton to Savage when Everett figures out how to formulate a cure, but cannot mass-produce it himself. Unfortunately, Vandenberg is under siege by MJ12 at the time of JC's arrival. ==Interactions with the player character== After JC lifts MJ12 siege of the base, he makes contact with Savage. Savage instructs JC to fix the X-51 computer, without which their UC would be useless. When JC does, Page contacts the two, blackmailing Savage into handing over the stolen reaction modules in return for Tiffany, who was captured by MJ12 on a mission in their Ocean lab. As JC moves to rescue Tiffany, Tracer Tong|Tong arrives at Vandenberg to obtain a cure for the Gray Death, which he contracted himself. If the player successfully rescues Tiffany, Savage gives JC an augmentation upgrade canister; if not, the two will still work together, but JC doesn't get a reward. He then directs JC to MJ12's MJ12 Ocean Lab|Pasadena Ocean Lab, where JC retrieves the Containment Shield|schematics Savage needs to complete X-51's UC. Savage then directs JC to a MJ12-controlled missile silo, with a missile programmed to hit Vandenberg. He instructs JC to alter the missile's programming to hit Area 51. Like Paul, Alex, Everett, and Tong, Savage guides JC while the latter moves through Area 51 to confront Page. If Paul dies in the game, Savage contacts JC at Area 51's holocomm. ==Gallery== SAVAGE 1.png|Savage as he appears in The Missing Link. {{Characters}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Savage, Gary}} pl:Gary Savage Category:Deus Ex characters Category:Deus Ex: Human Revolution - The Missing Link characters
