'''Credits''' are the global "virtual currency," seen in ''Deus Ex'', ''Deus Ex: Invisible War'' and ''Deus Ex: Human Revolution''. Credits are the official currency used in Germany, France, USA|The United States, Cairo|Egypt, Canada and Peoples Republic of China|the Peoples Republic of China. They are mostly used digitally through the Internet and Public Banking Terminal|ATMs, but despite what their name implies, physical financial transactions can also be made through the use of Tangible Credit Chits - Green vouchers that may hold anywhere from cr50 to several hundred credits. It is unknown where credits originated, but they were likely created by Majestic-12 or the Illuminati, as it supports their goals of centralization and control. Credit chits return in ''Deus Ex: Invisible War'', though they are now thinner, gray, and shaped slightly different. The Symbol for credits is ยข in the first two games, and V in Human Revolution.

In 2052, it costs cr2 to purchase a Soda or Candy bar from a vending machine, and cr8 to purchase a pack of Cigarettes|'Coughing Nails' brand cigarettes. Most Bartenders worldwide will sell cheaper drinks such as Forty|Forties and Liquor for cr10. Non-explosive and non-energy Ammunition (DX)|ammo usually costs several hundred credits, and explosives such as LAMs and Ammunition (DX) have a street value of multiple thousand credits. Few people keep more than a thousand credits in their ATM accounts.

==Trivia==
*Despite occurring after a 20 year economic depression, Credits in ''Invisible War'' are worth more than they were in ''Deus Ex''.
*In ''Deus Ex'', a Gas station is visited that has been abandoned since the Californian Earthquake Disasters in 2030. The station states "Same price Cash/Credit," implying that dollars were still the national US Currency in 2030. As Credits are used in ''Deus Ex: Human Revolution'', which occurs in 2027, this could mean dollars, but most likely it refers to the difference between tangible and digital credits.
