Cocktails

'''Cocktails''' are unique consumable items in ''Deus Ex: Human Revolution''. One of each variety is available for purchase from Bobby Bao, a bartender who works at The Hive.  The three choices are as follows:
*''Slum Dog''
*''Shanghai Gut Punch''
*''Golden Phoenix Sling''

==Descriptions==
''"Had a rough night? Why not have a little hair of the Slum Dog that bit you? Half rum, half vodka, half beer. Remember -- if it smells like a dog, and tastes like a dog, it's probably a Slum Dog."'' - '''Slum Dog'''

''"Three measures 180-proof alcohol, a pinch of lotus pollen, and a drop of red food dye No. 40. The Shanghai Gut Punch... about as subtle as its name implies."'' - '''Shanghai Gut Punch'''

''"Burnt out after a long day? Throw back a couple of Golden Phoenix Slings and you'll feel reborn.  Ginsing extract, cough syrup, and a healthy dose of Saké kissed with Tequila (and some other things we'd rather not divulge).  Just say "Sling Me!""'' - '''Golden Phoenix Sling'''

==Characteristics==

The Slum Dog, Shanghai Gut Punch, and Golden Phoenix Sling cost 10, 15, and 25 credits, respectively.  When drank, they will each heal 15, 25, or 30 points, respectively, up to a maximum of 200.  Similar to other methods of healing, this effect is temporary; it won't deplete automatically, but also will not regenerate past 100.

The bartender selling these is hard to miss, especially since you have to enter his place of business via the main questline, yet these drinks are still generally considered rare. This is because only one of each cocktail is available for purchase, the bartender is only accessible during the players first visit to Hengsha, and they are found nowhere else in-game.

WARNING: Alcoholic beverages will imbue the drinker with a small increase in damage resistance. Adverse effects will include blurred vision. Each additional beverage consumed (or the greater potency of a single beverage) will increase this effect.

==Notes==
*After comparing the cocktails descriptions to their pictorial counterparts, it appears that the pictures for the Slum Dog and Shanghai Gut Punch may have been mixed up.
*Cocktails are the only alcoholic beverages available for purchase in-game, aside from The Missing Link.
*Despite the in-game descriptions, all healing agents grant ''double'' the listed effect if the player is injured (<100hp) - in this case, 30/50/60 health points per use.
*Additionally, when an injured player consumes such an item, and the healing effect surpasses 100, the players health will automatically increase to what it would have been if the player consumed such an item at standard health (100) - in this case, to 115/125/130 health points.
**Translation; if the player currently has 41+ health points, a drink of the Golden Phoenix Sling will heal to 130, meaning a maximum of 89 points may be healed, despite a listed healing effect of only 30 points.
**It is not known whether this is a bug or the intended result.

Thanks...will do.  Hope you approve of the changes to the alcohols and such.
You're doing a great job! Keep up the good work!
Hey, Kain! Just wanted to let you know that the devs told me yesterday that they had decided to take a long vacation and, as such, shut down their virtual mail systems as a result. This effectively blocked any e-mail from coming through, including the one I sent. I resubmitted the question to them, and will inform you when one comes. I just wanted to let you know that I didn't forget. Also, enjoying Assassin's Creed III?
Can't really enjoy it, I get the "AC3SP.exe has stopped working" as soon as the recap video ends. This gets me further than other people who get that crash and can't even get to the menu, but I still can't play.
The issue with Keanu is that he can't act to save his freakin' life.

That very depressing to hear. And I've been meaning to ask you, what do you think about Scott Derrickson directing the Deus Ex film? Personally, I was hoping for Christopher Nolan to get the job. But I willing to give Derrickson a chance.
As long as it's not Michael Bay, I'm good.

"Vodka is remarkably rare in-game. It can only be found in some places in Detroit, the Picus Communications building, the Belltower dock|Port of Hanming, The Hive, Alice Garden Pods, and Panchaea."

I removed the above from the page simply because it doesn't make much sense to me; the listing says its extremely rare, but oh(!), look at all the places you can find it.  If someone wants to add it back, you're certainly welcome to given that its actually an impressive catalog of locations, but I would ask that you do so in a better format, and possibly add similar catalogs to the other rarer consumables to provide some form of standardization. Hey,

Just curious about the standard or etiquette as far as Stubs/Cleanup/etc. For instance, the mission You Scratch My Back, I'll Scratch Yours has a page that was fairly short and small, but then again it '''''is''''' a fairly short and small mission.  I cleaned up the notes and added some trivia to it, but I'm not sure how I can add much more.  Can I then remove the Stub/Cleanup?  Aside from this very particular example, can I decide whether or not to remove such labels in the future, or should I check with an admin first?...
You can decide when to remove such labels in the future, and I've taken care of You Scratch My Back, I'll Scratch Yours. There are no more stubs, but several articles in need of cleanup. Keep up the good work! As for the standard etiquette, you just have to add any information that is missing and correct any errors.
Do you mind deleting the templates on the Profile page of Itachou? It's clogging up some of the category pages and I'd prefer to get the categories as clean of links as possible. I'd do it myself but apparently he's locked it so only sysops can edit his page. Thanks in advance!

Hi, What is the reasoning behind deleting the spoiler template? Is it not using in any of the pages?
Kain and I came to the agreement that since the game has been out for over a year, and there are hardly any visitors to the wiki,  we could no longer see a reason for them to be used.
...though there probably should be a decent look-over.  I mean, if deeply reading into any article, there is bound to be some spoilers, same with talk pages - that is more or less common knowledge.  But at the same time, there probably shouldn't be a spoiler in the intro of a topic w/o some form of a warning, even after all this time...

So, as I'm kinda new here, and yet have been venturing to these boards abnormally often, I figured I'd give my 2 cents on a certain subject that I keep noticing.  A poll thats been on the front page of this wiki for more than a year asks the simplified question: ''Do you support the idea of a Deus Ex franchise reboot?''  The desire, it seems, has proven the growing trend in the entertainment industry of today, with a rough ratio of 18:1:1, where the possible answers are 'yes, maybe, or no' respectively.

Now, reboots have intrigued me quite a bit lately, mainly due to this apparent 'solution' to the lack (or downward slope) of original ideas and creative thinking in entertainment (movies, music, etc.).  They are arguably a good course of action sometimes, and questionable or disturbing other times, but they are almost always perceived well and thereby welcomed.  This is despite the obvious problems with canon, originality, and tender childhood dreams and memories.  Note: sequels and adaptations (book ->movie, game->movie, etc.) are a slightly different subject with different pros and cons, possibly worthy of a different blog, but if you feel it relates to your point, by all means...

So my question to you the reader, if you have the time, is 'Why?'.  If you voted in the poll, no matter how you voted, please explain your choice - but as the majority is certainly in favor, are you merely hopeful in seeing the travesties of DX2 undone? / or perhaps what you really want is just a 'shine job'?  Otherwise, more generalized opinions are welcome, while hopefully (at least somewhat) relating back to Deus Ex.  Is it merely a for-profit enterprise or are the people exploiting the content earnestly trying to improve it?  In the end, '''why is there such a need for reboots'''?
Category:Blog posts
...yes.

1) you needed a comment. :)

2) the dialogue was probably the one good thing out of the entire game.  Something that game devs seem to fail at (for the most part) is the ancient advice 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'...and they 'fixed' almost every other aspect of the game, for the worse...at least, thats most peoples opinion.

3) It's hard to follow up arguably one of the greatest games ever, so it probably wouldn't have met many peoples expectations anyways.  If you compare it to other console games, or possibly other games under the same genre of the time, IW is probably up near the top.  But most everyone compares a sequel to its predecessor, and it just can't compare.

I can't believe I didn't find this one. And I agree. Sometimes developers try to "enhance" certain features in a sequel that were very well received in the original, and end up just ruining the game. There was a cartloads of gameplay that was "fixed" for no apparent reason, other than a misguided attempt to make the game "better".
I'm really interested in seeing an anniversary edition of the original Deus Ex, just to get the opportunity to play it again, in its original splendor, but with some better production values.

So is this just gonna stay a blank page or is someone gonna add some 'they'd like do make this' info?

User:Areforever|Areforever (User talk:Areforever|talk) 11:16, December 12, 2012 (UTC)

: Well, we try to keep this wiki-ish, so it would be nice to add supported fact...which there is none concerning DX4.  We could delete the page, but then (if you check the history) some random person may feel its necessary to be silly - so I assume the admin who locked it just figured it was better to be created, blank, and locked than anything else...at least until we get some info on a possible sequel.

: All I know is that there was a promise of more to come from the devs at the end of the Missing Link credits.  This could just be your standard gusto, or it could be square enix talking about other unrelated stuff, or...who knows.  If you have any credible source material on the subject, I'd suggest posting it here...and if we get enough, maybe it would be worth proper documentation.  User:Dsurian|Dsurian 18:09, December 14, 2012 (UTC)

==Human Defiance==
Square Enix has just recently registered a trademark for the name Deus Ex: Human Defiance. Perhaps this will be the name of Deus Ex 4? --User:AleximMose|AleximMose (User talk:AleximMose|talk) 06:39, February 27, 2013 (UTC)File:1361945806825.png|frame|left|Proof

For some reason, it wasn't letting me edit for a while, but, in case you didn't know, Deus Ex: Human Defiance isn't the name of the fourth game. It's the name of the new movie they are planning.

--User:AleximMose|AleximMose (User talk:AleximMose|talk) 13:51, March 19, 2013 (UTC) ==The Fall== HOWEVER, Square Enix recently registered web domains for the title Deus Ex: The Fall. They currently own domains for '.com', '.net', '.co.uk' and other extensions of the title. Nothing is known about what this is, yet.

Now, a page for DX - Universe might be cool... User:Dsurian|Dsurian 02:21, October 3, 2013 (UTC)
