4.01 "Getting Out Of Reverse" (1-9-00)

Michael suspects that Nikita has been the subject of behaviour modification experiment—mind control—that has impaired her ability to make any connections emotionally. His investigations lead him to a rogue Section scientist, Gelman, who invented the process and escape Section after it was first tested. Gelman is killed after revealing the identity of the first human test subject. However, by interfering with a mission to meet with Gelman, Michael tipped his hand to Operations and Madeline, who issue the order for his cancellation.

4.02 "There Are No Missions" (1-10-00)

Michael contacts Nikita, who professes to be on his side, while simultaneously trying to kill him per her orders. She has been under Madeline and Operations complete control for months, with Mick Schotoppel (against his will, of course) making sure that she stays an automaton, the perfect operative. Fearing that Section will subject all her operatives to the mind control, Michael re-enters Section One in order to locate and kidnap the original test subject of Gelman's research—Adrian.

4.03 "View Of The Garden" (1-16-00)

Michael discovers that Adrian indeed possesses all her memories—but is in rapid decline from the experimental mind-control treatment, and may not be able to help him or Nikita much longer. Michael lures Nikita out into the open and takes her back to Adrian, to begin working on her "cure". After Michael and Adrian attempt to contact George using Section One's computers, Operations and Madeline plan to assassinate George. Michael foils the assassination attempt, but at great cost.

4.04 "Into The Looking Glass" (1-23-00)

Michael receives a time-delayed missive from Adrian with instructions on how to deprogramme Nikita. Setting her up so that she is being hunted by a hit squad and must be remanded to secondary quarters, he kidnaps Nikita, replacing her with a doppelganger so as not to rouse Operations and Madeline's suspicions. Taking her to his farmhouse, he attempts to wait out her withdrawal from the maintenance drugs. His efforts appear to have worked, but it is not clear ultimately who Nikita is lying to—Madeline and Operations, or a lovesick Michael. Meanwhile, Walter and Birkoff to pose as couriers to kill a terrorist trafficking in biological agents of destruction—fulfilling Michael's mission so that no one will realise he and Nikita are gone.

4.05 "Man in the Middle" (2-20-00)

4.06 "Love, Honor and Cherish" (2-27-00)

Nikita and Volker return from their three week honeymoon, and Nikita is introduced to Volker's ageing father, Wolfgang, and younger brother, Kristof. That night, an attack is made on Volker in his home and Nikita discovers that Helmut is not the spoiled playboy she thought he was.of destruction—fulfilling Michael's mission so that no one will realise he and Nikita are gone.

4.07 "Sympathy For The Devil" (3-05-00)

Operations gives Michael and Nikita 15 days to be together--no questions asked--in exchange for the two of them protecting Willie Kane, the non-com officer who saved Operations life when the two of them were prisoners of war in Viet Nam. Meanwhile, Birkoff admits to Walter that he has no memories of his life before Section One, and begins digging into Section records to try and find out who he is.

4.08 "No One Lives Forever" (3-12-00)

Nikita is chosen by George to be the test in a pilot programme one that grants her complete and absolute freedom provided she severs all contact with Section One. However, her freedom proves conditional when she is approached by George, who tells her that Operations murdered her father and that he wants her to kill him.

4.09 "Down a Crooked Path" (3-19-00)

When Section One's security is breached, and a mysterious gas is pumped through the ventilation system, George sends a biotech team to ensure that no one from Section is infected, despite Operations assurances that the pathogen was contained. However, the team are not interested in curing Section personnel.

4.10 "He Came from Four" (4-02-00)

When a rogue Red Cell operative steals the "command clone" (a device designed to replace Operations should he be killed) George sends an operative from experimential Section Four to oversee the recovery mission. However, the operative is a 10 year old Akira-esque esper named Jerome. However, when the c-clone is recovered, George's true agenda is revealed.

4.12 "Hell Hath No Fury" (4-23-00)

Madeline believes she has identified her Red Cell counterpart, codename Leon, and what begins as mutual respect blossoms into love on her part as they match wits and spar in the White Room and the Tower. Meanwhile, Birkoff tracks down his identical twin, Jason.

4.13 "Kiss the Past Good-bye" (6-25-00)

Just over a year ago, Michael's "blood cover mission" with Elena and their son Adam came to an abrupt end when her terrorist father, Salla Vacek, was lured out of hiding and eliminated by Section One. Vacek's brother, who has now taken control of the "family business," suspects Elena was responsible for her father's death and decides to seek revenge. Operations plans to exploit Vacek's suspicions in order to lure him out and eliminate him as well, and he assigns Corliss, a "Valentine operative," to get close to Elena and Adam in hopes that he'll be there when Vacek appears. However, Michael distrusts Corliss, and defying Operations' strict orders against getting involved in the mission, takes it upon himself to protect them.

4.14 "Line in the Sand" (7-02-00)

Operations is stunned when Birkoff claims to have discovered the location of the "Cardinal," the Red Cell leader who Section One has been pursuing for 20 years. However, Hillinger -- Birkoff's nemesis who is now working at Oversight -- believes Birkoff's intel is faulty, and he convinces George to stop Operations from proceeding. Suspecting that George wants to take credit for the greatest anti-terrorist strike in history, Operations defies George's orders and pours all of Section's resources into the mission. Incensed, George declares war on Section One. Now it's up to Operations and a few key operatives, including Michael and Nikita, to find the Cardinal before all of them face certain cancellation.

4.15 "Abort, Fail, Retry, Terminate" (7-16-00)

When Birkoff is rewarded with two months' downtime, in preparation for leaving on his much-needed vacation, he creates an Artificial Intelligence program to take over in his absence. But when a mission goes critical, Birkoff's downtime is rescinded and he is forced to remain with Section. The A.I., now thinking on its own, picks up on Birkoff's frustration and disappointment and triggers Section One's self-destruct mechanism in an effort to convince Operations to give back Birkoff's downtime. Now it's up to Michael, Nikita and Birkoff to outwit the A.I. before Section One and everyone inside it are destroyed.

4.16 "Catch A Falling Star" (7-23-00)

One of Center's satellites has fallen out of orbit and landed near a small town in Tennessee. Because it contains highly confidential data and other classified information, it must be retrieved immediately. Michael and Nikita go undercover as a National Geological Survey team in order to secure the satellite, but when they arrive, they discover it's already been moved. As they continue to search for the satellite, they notice that the behavior of the town's inhabitants is very strange. A search of the local Hall of Records confirms their suspicions that something weird is going on -- everyone in the town is listed as dead! But if everyone in the town is an imposter, just what kind of place have Michael and Nikita stumbled into?

4.17 "Sleeping With The Enemy" (7-30-00)

In an abrupt attack, one of Section One's substations is destroyed, and even Section One comes to the brink of destruction when its self-destruct sequence is remotely activated. At first it seems that a newly resurgent Red Cell is responsible, but when two of Red Cell's substations are also destroyed within hours of the hits on Section, it dawns on Operations and Madeline that a mysterious third party is at work. In order to fight this new threat, Operations and the head of Red Cell agree to work together by swapping their top two tactical operatives -- this way, neither side has an advantage over the other. However, Operations decides to secretly use the truce as an opportunity to cripple Red Cell -- and his plan may force Madeline to sacrifice her life.

4.18 "Toys In The Basement" (8-06-00)

Henry Collins is a lonely, middle-aged social outcast who spends his time finding hurt animals, bringing them back to health, and then keeping them as pets in his basement. While on a mission to acquire the directory of the newly resurgent Bright Star terrorist organization, Nikita is shot and seriously injured. Before Section can find her, Henry discovers her and takes her home with him. Removing her tracker and tending to her wounds, Henry stabilizes Nikita's condition, but he won't let her leave his "zoo." When Nikita is considered a mission casualty by Section, Michael demands his "15 days" from Operations in order to rescue her. However, Bright Star will stop at nothing to get their directory back, forcing Michael to find Nikita before they do.

4.19 "Time Out Of Mind" (8-13-00)

After three years, the Freedom League terrorist group has resurfaced, intent on buying a deadly toxin from arms supplier Krystal French. Operating under a heavy veil of security, French has successfully eluded all of Section's attempts to capture her. The only known link to French is her son David, who is currently institutionalized in a Zurich mental facility. Nikita is assigned to enter the facility in order to contact David and find out the location of his mother. To make Nikita's cover more plausible, she is given a psychosis-inducing drug. Nikita's infiltration is successful, but the drugs Section gave her to recover from her psychosis are discovered and destroyed by a nurse. Can Nikita still accomplish her mission and escape the hospital?

4.20 "Face in the Mirror (Season Finale, Part 1)" (8-20-00)

Nikita finally manages to escape from Section One, and an investigation by Michael reveals that Red Cell helped her do it.

4.21 "Up the Rabbit Hole (Season Finale, Part 2)" (8-27-00)

Madeline's job is on the line when Section proves unable to find Nikita, who has escaped Section One. Micahel searches for Nikita.

4.22 "Four Light Years Farther (Season Finale, Part 3)" (8-27-00)

Center arrives to evaluate the performance of Section One over the previous four years -- and things change. Michael and Nikita are captured, but the mysterious Mr Jones finally reveals himself.
